Bratz Metallic Madness Cloe and Cameron

Metallic Madness hit the UK! It's a Smyths exclusive but since it was annouced i've been eagerly awaiting the release of Cameron specifically. I've said it before, but I freaking LOVE the Bratz Boyz. They were the first doll line I ever collected and I always get excited when I hear they're getting some MGA attention once more.

Of course, thus far only Cameron has been announced. He has a Hello My Name is doll and this two pack doll. Both look pretty similar if not identical but hey, 2 clone boyz is better than no boyz.

So here it is, Metallic Madness - Trash wedding... I mean... Dance Duo Cameron and Cloe.

Seriously though, the tux shirt and sneakers and a beanie hat? Cameron, this is a formal dance you twit, put on a damn suit and stop being such a "rebel" it just makes you look silly.

And Cloe... honey... that thing looks like a wedding dress. A vegas wedding dress, but still a wedding dress. White is not the colour to wear to prom. Sorry, it just isn't.

I have no idea what the handle thing is all about. It's plastic, has lips on and is covered in some sort of plastic wrap. At first I thought "oh headband for you?" but it's not long enough. Nothing on the box explains, so... is it just a fancy pointless handle? Why is it made of plastic?

The back of the box has several pictures and Cloe goes on about how her dress is omg like a disco ball. I disagree, it looks more like tinfoil and tulle.

It reads:

Squeeeee! This dress is like a disco ball you wear! And with the Blaze, i'll only shine brighter as we burn up the dance floor.

I cracked up that she referred to Cameron as "the blaze", I thought only HE called himself that. It's totally the sort of nickname a guy gives himself. "They call me... the Blaze... because i'm HOT" yeah yeah Cam, we believe you.

Cloe and Cameron, a couple so "made for one another" they look like siblings and even have alliterative names. Wheee.

Honestly, they look like brother and sister to me lol.
oops?

still apparently they're one of the oldest canon couples. I never really followed the animated stuff, I didn't get into Bratz till well after their first run so I can't really speak about the history of Clomeron (or should that be Camoe?)

The box is fairly easy to open. Slice the tape and then the backing card slides out from the side.
Unfortunately MGA being MGA the dolls are taped, glued, tied and plastic tabbed onto the backing card. *headdesk*

EVERY item of clothing is sewn to the card or the doll, it's absolutely crazy. The jacket for instance isn't just fastened around a plastic body form, it's stitched to the card with the sleeves stitched to the body of the jacket. Cam's hat is stitched in multiple places around his head. Cloe's entire dress is plastic tabbed together at every single pleat/fold and I didn't know if you were meant to remove them or not.

Overkill? Oh heck yeah.

Cameron comes with his hat stitched loosely to his head and a LOT to the backing card so it sits high up his head. Presumably this is so you can see his face and the hat, which I have to say is a really nicely made hat. It's knitted and it's soft acrylic with shiny blue thread for the stripes. It's thick and really cosy feeling.

For some strange reason Cloe is packaged higher in the box than Cameron, so she seems massively taller. I don't understand this.

Her bow is ludicrously huge.

There's a small collection of accessories for Cloe. There's a necklace with angel wings, a pair of fancy earrings and a silver arm cuff... thing.

There's also what i think is a camera? I'm not sure, it's small square and has a loop on it.

And super hard to get a clear photo of.

So here's Cameron, who I admit, is the only reason I bought the two pack.

He's a cutie.

He has thick eyebrows with dark hair detailing, pale blue eyes with these kinda odd lines through them (present in the girls but more noticeable in Cam because his eyes are so pale)  and a cute little smirk.

He also has a random white dot on his face that seems to be a paint flaw, it doesn't want to come off though. Eh.

Under that hat (which took a white to unstitch) he has a mop of shaggy blonde hair. It's gelled a bit at the front and kinda frizzy at the ends but it's nice to see a boy with longer hair after so many years of flocked headed Bratz Boyz.
He looks cute with this hair style, which reminds me of the High School Style Cameron from back in the day.

So yay for that.

Cam's outfit comprises a black tee with tux pattern, which must be trendy right now as Mattel just released a MH doll with the same shirt! (Love's not Dead Slo Mo), and a pair of tight fitting grey knit.... pants?

The tee is made of soft cotton, every edge is hemmed in white thread and the motif is nicely printed on.

His pants are... ok.. i'm sorry... this is how they were when I took his shirt off and they look like chest waders. I had to stop to laugh for a while. Like.. oh my god is this fashionable right now? 2015 you fail at fashion, this is just... oh god.

Ok... now i've composed myself..

Cameron's pants have a blue flame motif and printed on I think seams... but they look more like "here is my groin" arrows. Like.. man they draw the eye to his crotch! I don't... feel right looking at his groin like this.

He has printed on knee pads too.

they're grey knit and tight fitting with blue ribbon uh.. suspender/bracers hanging down.
They're pretty terrible.

His shoes are chunky cartoony sneakers with painted laces and caps, and moulded spikes along the side and heel.

Strangely, they're actually a teeny bit smaller than the old Bratz Boy shoes (but about the same size as the post 2010 boy shoes... go figure)

Under all those clothes is the regular early 2000s Bratz Boyz body, absolutely nothing new here except perhaps those red and white tightey whiteys hahaha.
Bratz Boy Y fronts always crack me up.

His hair is a little sparse at the back but this is from being in the box, it's all distorted and shoved to the side rather than laying flat down the back.

His back has a load of writing printed on, the usual "imported into the eu blah blah blah" bamph the girls have as well.

He has pierced ears (both of them), and yet no earrings... curious.

At first glance I thought he had the same face as the older boyz too, just with bigger eyes but nope, new head mould (it's marked 2015)

He's also shorter than the older boyz, but it's not because of his body, it's his SHOES

While the older Bratz Boy shoes pegged in above the shoe line with a small bit of "flesh" showing, Cameron's shoes peg deeper into the shoe itself. The deeper socket for the peg means his leg sits lower and thus makes him shorter.
It also has the potential advantage that the shoes will be more interchangeable amongst the boyz with no need for the flesh tone chunk of ankle, they also look a bit more natural as you can't see a seam.

Because it's the exact same body, the peg socket is the same size so shoes are completely interchangable

It's also worth noting that the new Cameron is markedly pinker than the older Cams are.

His head looks much like they took the original Bratz Boyz head and inflated it. His noggin is massive!
He has the same pouty lips, same straight bridged nose and high cheek bones but he's lost the dimple in the chin.

They've managed to capture the very "bratz boyz" look in this new face mould while retaining the "bigger head, younger look" thing of the new Bratz.

He looks like a kid brother, and he's adorable.

Unlike the new girls, Cam didn't get a fancy new body, so he's stuck with clicky knees that bend only this far and totally static arms.

I wish we'd gotten articulated boy bodies. The boyz haven't had a change of mould here since like 2002! While the girls have gone through a good half dozen different body types.
Damnit MGA, the boyz deserve at least some articulation! Arms preferably.

Cameron also comes with a vinyl jacket that is really quite nicely made. It has those plastic fake zippers with sewn on "zip pulls" at the ends of the sleeves. It's well made, made of a thick vinyl fabric and fits great. It's old school Bratz quality and I LOVE it. there's little metalic studs on the collar even!
My only gripe is that there's some obvious stitching where the velcro is attached at the front and under the collar shows the lining but you know what? It doesn't matter, the rest of the jacket is so nice.

He's a handsome wee man, but his shortness coupled with Cloe's high high heels do make him rather teeny alongside his bride I mean... date.

Cam's head looks a bit small in some pictures alongside Cloe, but it's actually not too bad.

His face is just a lot narrower but they're generally the same sort of inflated size.

Cloe's outfit is pretty OTT. Her bow is blue and pink netting, stiff and enormous. It's held on her head with a clear elastic band which is a brilliant thing to see. I've become used to Mattel's "let's just plastic tab this to the head so it can never be put back on the doll again" tactic these days, I was honestly delighted to find that after snipping the plastic tab holding her bow in place, there was an almost invisible band that made it removable and better, reusable!
YAY! thank you MGA!

Under that massive bow her hair is side parted and a beautiful shade of platinum blonde (it's white ok, it's honestly WHITE). One side falls naturally while the other side is pulled back with an elastic band ponytail and a gelled single curl (which was sewn to her dress in like three places. wth?)
I think her hair is Saran like the other Bratz, it's lovely and shiny and smooth.

Her earrings actually have a teeny little set of angel wings and then dangly circles, they're just.. fancy earrings.

She has pale pink lips, moulded to be parted by painted so there's no teeth showing.I might paint in the teeth, I think it looks a bit odd like this.

She has a spattering of freckles, a cute touch for the new Cloe's, they all have freckles now and it not only makes her look younger, it sets her apart from being a bit too "barbie"-like.

I vastly prefer the deluxe lines eyebrows, so i'm pleased even the two packs get the wider eyebrows with hair details. I've decided to call the other brows the "budget bitch brows" or "BBB" as they make the dolls look annoyed and kinda trashy to me.

Her eyes are a lovely baby blue rimmed in dark blue. She has pale pink eyeshadow and then subtle silvery shimmer.

Her cheeks are blushed pink.

Yay makeup!

I find it strange that her necklace is matte grey while the rest of her accessories are silver. It doesn't quite look right.

anyway, her dress has a shimmery bodice with a slight sweetheart neckline, then a strange silver material for the skirt that feels a bit cheap and fragile. It has a foil holographic print of circles. Over that is a sort of lacey stiff fabric with I think flowers.. or possibly snow flakes, hard to tell and lines of shimmering thread. Over THAT is another layer of shimmery white fabric that feels like it wants to unravel as soon as you touch it. I think it's the same fabric they used for Bratzilla Fianna's mermaid cape/tail fin.

Put simply, her dress feels cheap. Not in construction, as it's pretty well put together, but in fabrics. I suppose this sort of fabric will always be fragile but it feels a bit TOO flimsy. While the net of the uh.. train... poofy bit is ok, the overskirt is already fraying at the edges and nothing in the skirt is lined or hemmed at all.

The dress is heavy, the train section is VERY full and has a lot of heft to it. I don't think this kind of dress would be that easy to dance in with the strange side angled train and all that volume.

Cameron came with a blue rose that's frankly ridiculously oversized, it's cute.

Cloe's shoes are bright blue heels with little moulded studs. I don't find them hugely interesting to be perfectly honest.

They look nice with her outfit though, a splash of colour to tie into Cameron's outfit.

The arm cuff/bracelet thing is a nightmare to put on. It's really stiff and I thought it was going to break trying to squeeze it open enough to slide onto her arm.

Like my other new Bratz, one of Cloe's legs didn't want to bend much out of the box. I had to apply a fair bit more pressure than I would have liked to ease it up. I can see a lot of these getting broken by kids forcing the jammed knee joint.

Here comes the br... uh.. prom... queen... yeah.

Seriously though, I can't help but see "My Big Fat Shotgun wedding" in this set.

Cameron's jacket just doesn't look right with his silly leggings. Also, he looks ridiculously short.

A quick change into some other Bratz jeans and i'm a bit happier. Cam's outfit still doesn't look nearly formal enough for a dance, particularly not when the girls are dolled up to the nines but at least jeans don't stand out so much as ridiculous grey knit chest waders.

So, final thoughts about the Trash Wedding Dance Duo two pack?

I actually like it.

Cloe I admit isn't my favourite Bratz, I find her a bit bland but this doll is pretty enough. I do like that she's got this white blonde hair now instead of generic blonde, it makes her feel a bit different and more glam. I also like her freckles, they're really really cute.
Her outfit is cohesive and the little splash of colour in her bow and shoes is nice, but the matte grey of her necklace stands out and the dress looks... cheap. Like something you'd find in a pound shop in terms of the fabrics used.
The train and bodice are well sewn, but the skirt part lets it down hugely. It's all just a bit of a mess.

her bow is ridiculously oversized and looks imo rather silly too. imagine if you saw a girl with a bow bigger than her head like this! You'd laugh your butt off right? I know I would.

Cameron though, I love him. He's cute and the new head mould is pretty damn close to the original, so he's not any huge change from what i'm used to. It's great to see a Bratz Boy back on the market again and I hope this is a sign of things to come and we'll see more soon.
I do wish he'd been given some articulation though, or just some tweaks to the old body to make him actually stand taller than the girls. As it stands, he does look a bit too short alongside the girls in their massive clompy heels.

I like his cartoony shoes, they blend well with his larger head. His big blue eyes are adorable and his outfit, though questionable in style, is very nicely made.

His hair needs a rinse and a restyle, and he needs some earrings heh, but i'm delighted with him.

I give the set a solid 9 wedding bells and shotgun shells out of 10.

Cloe's dress could have been better, but otherwise, not too shabby MGA, not too shabby.

  1. It's not suppose to be a "formal" prom dance, it's just a glitzy glam party.

As for the handle, I guess you're not familiar with MGA's unique way of packaging. If you look at the boxes of the older Bratz lines, like Wild Wild West, Treasures, Campfire, Pretty N Punk, Toyko A Go-Go, etc. etc., they each have their own fancy handle that goes with the theme of each of those lines. It is not "pointless", it's just part of the packaging that makes it stand out and attract attention.

    1. You don't wear sneakers and a tee-shirt to a glitsy glam dance either. If the girls are in fancy dresses, the boys should at least be in blazers and slightly smarter shoes.

and ahh, so the handle is just wasteful excess plastic packaging. Nice to know MGA still don't care about the environment then, because those are going straight to landfill. At least those that double as something get kept because they have a use. Pointless ones just get chucked with the box. It IS pointless, particularly as you don't even see the handle in the store as they're stacked on a shelf with the handles flat against the top of the box. I can think of no kid who goes "oh wow, this thing has a great handle, i MUST buy it". *snort* That's just silly. Nope, it's extraneous packing of wastefulness.

    2. It's seems you're not aware of how teenage boys actually dress. This is not 2005. It's 2015. Fashion have certainly changed over time, and celebrities have worn sneakers and jeggings with exaggerated clothing pieces at The Grammys every year. So saying things like "You don't wear sneakers and a t-shirt to a dance party" is currently inaccurate considering that many people DO dress like that in this generation, whether you like it or not.

Actually, there are quite a lot of Bratz fans who collects these handles because they are pretty cute. You may want the boxes to be boring, dull and uninteresting. But unlike you, most people are loving the way MGA is styling these packages. Of course the dolls are more important and people would buy it regardless, but if they see that the boxes look like they haven't been put much effort into it, then it will look lazily done and unimpressive. MGA decided to be creative about it by adding fancy handles, which has gotten a lot of praise. If you look at the Sleepover Party line, the handle is a soft sleeping mask which goes very well with the theme. It's just a nice feature and to say that it's a danger to the environment is really quite ignorant and overly-dramatic. It's not gonna cause mass destruction, people through away plastic bottles all the time. And I don't know what kind of shelves you see in stores, but the handles are actually visible, even if some are flat against the top of the box. Again, it's not "pointless". It's called a DECORATION. I guess According to your logic: why bother decorating a box when it would be much cheaper and "safer" to just leave it plain brown and just throw the doll in there.

    3. Oh dear, it would seem you've mistaken my opinnion for some sort of personal attack on you.Funnily enough i'm entitled to write my reviews the way I please and say what I think. You seem to be the one being overly dramatic sweetheart. How about we reign it in a bit ok? Sorry I offended you but you know what? You don't have to read my blog if you don't like it and don't like the way I write or my opinions. You see, this is MY blog not yours and thus is my personal opinion ONLY.
Nobody's forcing you to come here and yell at me for not agreeing with you about everything. All us doll people will not see eye to eye on everything right? Some people love one thing and hate another, we're all human beings with different likes and dislikes and different views, and that's kinda the point. We wouldn't be writing reviews if we weren't loud mouthed opinnionated biatches right?

Remember, you aren't MGAE, so you don't need to defend them ok? they're big boys, they can look after themselves.

  2. Great review, thanks. So good to see the boyz back in town and I like this Cameron's outfit more than the hello my name is. It is the jacket and that electric blue that work for me. Lol it does look like a Vegas wedding though! Shame the boyz do not get the articulation though. Hope they bring out more variations of dolls than cloe again too, am hoping for katia.
